U.S. snow storm: By the numbers

Monday, January 26, 2015, 2:51 PM - An historic storm is making its way into the U.S., prompting officials to issue a state of emergency for several states. Here's a breakdown of what's happening, by the numbers.
20 MILLION: The number of U.S. citizens who may see blizzard conditions. The heaviest snowfall amounts are expected from Pennsylvania and New Jersey through to New England.
9,656 KILOMETRES: New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has enacted a travel ban on the city's 9,656 km of roads effective Monday at 11:00 p.m. local time. "We need to recognize this as an emergency, this is not business as usual," Mr. de Blasio told reporters.
3,500: According to FlightAware, more than 3,500 U.S. flights scheduled Monday and Tuesday.
650: "We have about 650 pieces of snow-fighting equipment coming to Long Island, particularly Eastern Long Island," New York Governor Andrew Cuomo tweeted Monday afternoon.
91 CENTIMETRES: Northern New Jersey to Connecticut could see up to 91 cm of snow by the time all is said and done.

64 KILOMETRES PER HOUR: Sustained winds could get up to 64 kph in some places. Gusts could be as high as 88 kph.
10 CENTIMETRES: Up to 10 cm of snow per hour could fall during the height of the storm, which is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning.
4: The number of states that have declared states of emergency. They include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts
1 METRE: Strong winds brought about by the storm have elevated the risk of coastal flooding. Storm surge flooding could be up to 1 metre between Mid-Atlantic to New England.
