Hypnotic lava overflows at Hawaii volcano: Must-see video

Monday, April 30, 2018, 8:00 AM - Newly-released video from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) features lava from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano spilling over the banks of its summit lava lake last week.
The footage, which was captured by the agency's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) on April 22, shows lava spilling onto Halema‘uma‘u crater.

The event is just one in a series of overflows occurring at Kilauea, with the most current recorded Thursday.
Experts are calling the recent activity the largest lava overflow observed at the site in a decade.
"At approximately 6:15 a.m. today (April 26) a new overflow began on Halema‘uma‘u crater floor," reads a statement on the USGS website.
"The lava lake overflow continued until about 10:30 a.m. and covered about 36 hectares (90 acres) of the crater floor with lava."
Kīlauea has been continuously erupting for 3 decades. It's considered one of the world's most active volcanoes.
