Each spring, thousands of reindeer march from wintering grounds in Jimmy Lake, N.W.T., to calving grounds on Richards Island.

The process is overseen by a group of herders and the annual event took place over the weekend.

A videographer was on hand to witness it, and you can check out the stunning video above.

The incredible footage hasn't been uploaded to YouTube yet but, if it ever makes its way there, we're sure it will go viral.

The annual reindeer crossing is a bit of a tourist attraction with crowds of locals turning up to witness the event.

According to the CBC, this is the only free-range herd in the country, and the northernmost free-range herd on the continent.

It was started as a government initiative in the 1930s with reindeer that had been imported from Norway.
