Watch the Leonid Meteor Shower peak on Monday night!

Scott Sutherland
Meteorologist/Science Writer

Monday, November 17, 2014, 7:05 PM - It's not looking really good for meteor shower viewing across Canada, what with all the cloudy skies in the forecast tonight, but NASA has us covered for the event, as they'll be livestreaming their views all night long.

"We're predicting 10 to 15 meteors per hour," Bill Cooke, of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, said in a statement.  "For best viewing, wait until after midnight on Nov. 18, with the peak of the shower occurring just before sunrise."

The good thing about this, compared to other kinds of astronomical events, is that the timing Cooke mentions applies regardless of what time zone you live in. This is because the Earth is rotating into the stream of debris - left behind in space by the passage of Comet Tempel-Tuttle - which produces the meteor shower. So, the 'radiant' - the point in the night sky the meteors seem to originate from - rises and sets at the same relative time, no matter where you are.

However, if you're trapped under cloudy skies, you can watch the NASA livestream, via UStream, as they share their views of the sky from Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
The show starts at 7:30 pm EST and continuing until sunrise on Tuesday morning!
