"Showers along a cold front pushes from Saskatchewan into Manitoba through Sunday," says The Weather Network meteorologist Nadine-Powell Hinds. "The heaviest rain continues through northern Saskatchewan into northern Manitoba by Sunday evening."

There is the risk of thunderstorms with this system for parts of southwestern Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan. Small hail and heavy rain are the primary threats.

All eyes are on the next system set to impact the eastern Prairies. It develops south of the border and then tracks northeast, impacting southern Saskatchewan and parts of Manitoba Monday through Thursday. Heavy rain, strong winds and snow look to target the region.

"We'll see windy conditions with a large swath of 50-100 mm of rain," says Dr. Doug Gillham, another meteorologist at The Weather Network.

Meanwhile, a special weather statement remains in effect for snow in northwestern Alberta, with a full-fledged snowfall warning in northeastern B.C.

"Thus far snow has been mainly falling over the southwestern portions of the Peace River region such as around Spirit River and highways over higher elevations," says Environment Canada. "Just across the B.C. border in Fort St. John, where temperatures are slightly colder than in Alberta, 15 cm of snow has fallen. This colder air will push further into the Peace River region overnight, changing rain showers to snow. General accumulations of around 5 cm are expected over portions of the region before tapering off by late Saturday night. The snowfall should gradually spread eastwards before ending, but with lesser amounts."
