Wednesday, June 29, 2016, 2:49 PM - Since March 2015, the Alert Ready system, developed by Pelmorex Media, home of The Weather Network, has been in place to help broadcasters get emergency information out quickly.

It allows government warning information to issue emergency messages in the event of an impending natural disaster, broadcast across Canada using Weather Network infrastructure.

Not only will it include the information contained in the original warning issued by Environment Canada, it will also include instructions for viewers on how to handle that particular emergency.

Canada is no stranger to severe weather, with powerful and potentially fatal tornadoes. The 1985 Barrie tornado killed 11 people, while the Edmonton tornado of 1987 killed 27, and helped spur the government into organizing the Alberta Emergency Alert system.

Watch the full report above, from Rachel Schoutsen.
