Along the St Lawrence River

31943 views Calvin Hanson July 4, 2024 South Stormont, Ontario, CA Date shot: July 4, 2024

This adult “Common Gallinule” (one of four adults that I photographed today July 4th) is feeding along the shoreline of the St. Lawrence River. Its image is mirrored in the river’s water. Viewed as a spectacular addition to the Seaway area with the bold colours of red and yellow on its face and bill. It’s the size of a small chicken, having toes that are very long and not webbed which allows it to walk easily on the muddy shoreline and on lily pads. It hides and nests in bulrushes.
