This banded Common Tern returned to this area with its mate this morning Sunday April 28th. It has a federal leg band, so I determined the numbers on the band and submitted the numbers to the Bird Banding Laboratory in Maryland, USA who informed me the bird’s numbers are in their database, confirming it was banded 17 years ago when it was too young to fly, at a location 6 miles west of Massena, New York. The bird has returned to this location the past six years in a row.
