This Common Tern caught a fish for its mate. Both birds returned on Sunday morning after being away for the winter. This bird has a very small federal leg band, so I photographed the numbers on the band and sent them to the Bird Banding Lab in Maryland, USA who confirmed the bird is 17 years old and was originally banded in 2007 six miles West of Massena, New York. I first recorded this bird’s band numbers in 2019 and every year since when it returned to this area each Spring.
