Saturday, May 14, 2016, 12:23 PM - It was a whirlwind of a prom night for a Colorado couple as a tornado gave them a memory they will never forget.

Wray High School teenagers Ali Marintzer and Charlie Bator were getting ready to head to their dance last Saturday when a massive tornado touched down nearby.

The pair figured the twister was a safe distance away and decided to use the severe storm as a backdrop for an epic prom photograph.

Marintzer uploaded the picture to Facebook and it has since gone viral.

The tornado was about 5 km away from the house at the time. While the prom was not cancelled, it was delayed by about 45 minutes to ensure all students and staff were safe, KMGH TV reports.

Several tornadoes touched down in the area Saturday. Many buildings were damaged and at least five people suffered from minor injuries.

slow-moving storm will continue to bring the risk of severe thunderstorms to central and eastern parts of the United States this weekend. Meanwhile, in Canada, Alberta's first tornado of the season touched down recently just east of Calgary.
