Drone captures thousands of imperial cormorants nesting on Argentine beach

Friday, March 13, 2015, 7:18 PM - Amazing drone footage has captured the annual nesting session for more than 10,000 seabirds on the beaches of Patagonia, Argentina. The birds cover approximately 2,000 square metres.

The footage was uploaded to YouTube earlier this month.

It was gathered by a team of researchers as part of an initiative to record the animal's reproduction habits and features approximately 5,300 'bird couples'.

Each female will produce between 2 and 3 eggs, but many will be lost to predators.

Cormorants are not considered to be a threatened species, but they are susceptible to pollution climate change and extreme weather events due to their relatively small range.

The birds can often be seen swimming along the South American coastline.
