Wednesday, February 3, 2016, 9:21 PM - While icy roads and poor weather conditions don't cause accidents, they can be a contributing factor -- especially if a motorist isn't adjusting their driving to suit the environment.
On Tuesday, the South Dakota Highway Patrol posted a video to Facebook, featuring a SUV spinning wildly on an icy road.
It has since gone viral, racking up more than 800 'likes' and 'shares'.
"All the media/weather warnings, Facebook postings, and Twitter posts still didn't prevent this from occurring today," The patrol said on Facebook.
"The driver was very lucky to have only been caught on camera by the Trooper."
Officials say it's important to slow down when severe weather hits. Failure to do so can lead to traffic delays and accidents.

- Check weather conditions prior to heading out. If the weather is treacherous, try to re-arrange your schedule to avoid the worst of the storm.
- Take it slow and leave space
- Give yourself plenty of time to break
- If possible, use winter tires
