20-degree days finally coming to St. John's after weeks of rain and fog

It's certainly been a while, but high temperatures in St. John's are expected to be above seasonal for all of this week

Some gloomy spring weather has certainly dominated Newfoundland in recent weeks, with mostly cloudy conditions, rain and dense fog remaining stuck over the region. In fact, since May 28, there's been rain in the forecast every day in St. John's except for this past Sunday.

The city has nearly reached the average totals for the entire month of June in these first 10 days, alone. So far, 93.2 mm has fallen, and typically, 97.5 mm of rain falls throughout the month.

The dreary weather is thanks in part to a cut-off low, one that's been causing below normal temperatures and the unsettled weather to stall over the island.

The weather fortunes will take a major turn this week however, with a warm and humid air mass entering into the region. St. John's has only hit the 20-degree mark once so far this entire year!

"After yet another chance of rain on Monday, clearer and warmer conditions are expected behind the low as it moves out of the province," says Rachel Modestino, a meteorologist at The Weather Network. "Tuesday is offering a chance to reach 20°C, and much sunnier weather in St. John's, finally ending the nearly two week long streak of fog, cloud and rain for the city."

There's another chance for some 20°C weather on Wednesday, though the sunny start to the day will follow with another rainy system for late week. However this time around, the system is coming from the south, meaning temperatures are expected to remain above normal under the southerly flow.
