In Photos: Four days of destruction in Matthew's wake

Monday, October 10, 2016, 7:21 AM - Hurricane Matthew made landfall in South Carolina Saturday morning as a Category 1 hurricane, not long after leaving a path of destruction through parts of the Caribbean and Florida.
Though the storm is no longer a hurricane, and is no longer near the coast, flood warnings are widespread throughout North Carolina, and storm damage is widespread across the region.
More than a thousand deaths have been reported in Haiti, which was hit hardest by Matthew late last week and suffered the majority of casualties across the Caribbean.
In the U.S., at least 19 people are dead, with the largest number of deaths in North Carolina, where five people are also missing.
Many residents took to social media to post photos of storm damage and impact. See photos and video below.

Hurricane Matthew made landfall in the Bahamas Thursday, bringing wind gusts well over 160 km/h. In the video below, Arnold Ageeb watches as destructive winds rip the roof off a home in the capital city of Nassau.
A bridge in Ti Goave, Haiti collapsed due to Hurricane Matthew. The photo below shows residents trying to walk or drive through the river to continue on the road from north to south.
