Watch a California lake disappear in 40 seconds

Tuesday, October 6, 2015, 4:49 PM - California is in the midst of one of the worst droughts in modern history, with more than 90 percent of the state experiencing severe drought conditions or worse, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
California resident Ryan Griffith has taken it upon himself to show how dire the situation is.
He created a timelapse video using footage collected between March 2015 and August 2015 at Folsom Lake Marina, about 40 km northwest of Sacramento.
By the end of the clip the lake -- which starts out filled with water and boats -- has completely vanished.

Folsom Lake is a reservoir, so it's natural for water levels to fluctuate as temperatures warm up, but according to USA Today it has never been so devoid of water.
California's Department of Water Resources has confirmed it's currently holding about 18 percent of its capacity -- less than a third of what's usually seen in the reservoir this time of the year.
