Massive 'ice volcano' forms on geyser in western New York

Friday, February 20, 2015, 4:03 PM - Frigid conditions in western New York have caused a geyser to freeze in western New York, creating a five-storey-tall 'ice volcano.'

The 'volcano' is made up of several layers of thick ice, with water that spouts out the top. It formed following days of below-freezing temperatures.

It can be found in the Grand Canyon East park. Officials say visitors rarely come to the area this time of year, but the strange ice formation has dozens of people showing up daily.

Bitterly cold temperatures remain in place across Canada and the U.S. -- and there doesn't appear to be an end in sight.

Long range models suggest the cold trend will continue for communities on both sides of the border through the end of the month and into early March.
