Wednesday, November 25, 2015, 5:57 PM - A Toronto couple is facing child abandonment charges after leaving a three and five-year old child unattended in a cold van parked outside the Great Blue Heron Casino in Scugog, Ont. Tuesday.
The temperature was around the freezing mark when the sleeping children were found. Police told reporters they showed signs of being cold, but neither required medical attention.
It's not clear how long the children were left unattended while the parents gambled inside the casino.
The 35-year-old mother and her 58-year-old husband were arrested at the scene. The children have been taken into custody by the Children's Aid Society.
Police are withholding the names of the guardians to protect the identity of the children.
Last February, a couple in Washington, D.C. made headlines when they left their children, aged 22-months and 2-and-a-half at the time, unattended in a car in near-freezing temperatures while they attended a wine tasting.
